Ascend® Smart Switch
The Ascend® Smart In-Wall Timer is a 7-Day Programmable, Wi-Fi–enabled switch that brings convenience and control to residential lighting. Through the companion Ascend app, users can remotely manage lighting schedules over Wi-Fi—enhancing security, energy efficiency, and user comfort. While voice integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant is optional, it adds an extra layer of smart home connectivity.
Intermatic partnered with our design team to merge cutting-edge smart technology with a sleek, approachable aesthetic and intuitive user interface. In addition to designing the physical product, we were also tasked with creating the graphic user interface (GUI)—developing a clear framework for both initial setup and everyday use through the app and device interface.

The final design delivers a smart, intuitive lighting solution tailored specifically for retrofit applications. One of the defining advantages—and design challenges—was ensuring full functionality within the dimensional and mechanical limits of a standard duplex wall switch. Our team embraced this constraint, creating a compact form factor that houses advanced technology without requiring special installation or additional wiring. The reduced button interface and backlit LCD screen maximize usability within the tight footprint, while the clean, modern aesthetic allows the timer to integrate discreetly into a wide range of home environments. The result is a powerful, approachable product that brings smart control to existing homes—without the need for costly upgrades or hub-based systems.
