With a legacy rooted in precision laboratory equipment, PolyScience brought decades of expertise in temperature control, thermal consistency, and reliability to the culinary space. As sous vide cooking gained momentum among professional chefs and high-end home users, PolyScience identified an opportunity to translate its lab-grade engineering into a high-performance culinary tool.
Our designers began the project with a comprehensive evaluation of the client’s existing immersion circulator as well as competing products in both the commercial and consumer markets. The goal was to understand not only how these devices were being used—but also how they could be improved for real-world kitchen environments. We focused on identifying usability pain points, assembly complexity, ergonomic shortcomings, and storage limitations, all while maintaining PolyScience’s exacting standards for thermal performance and reliability.
Design
Guided by this research and by PolyScience’s reputation for precision, the team established a clear set of design objectives:
Translate lab-grade precision into a chef-friendly format that emphasizes ease of use without compromising on performance.
Streamline manufacturing and assembly by reducing the number of components and simplifying part interfaces.
Enhance safety and durability, making the unit resilient to both commercial kitchen conditions and home use.
Improve ergonomics and interaction design, creating intuitive controls, clearer visual feedback, and easier cleaning access.
Retain PolyScience’s DNA—industrial reliability, thermal accuracy, and engineering integrity—in a form that looks and feels like a modern kitchen tool.
Deliver
Building on these goals, our industrial designers worked closely with the engineering team to shape a solution that fused scientific performance with culinary elegance.
We explored multiple form factors and ergonomic studies, seeking a design that was compact yet powerful, and visually aligned with professional kitchen tools.
Early concepts were developed in sketch and CAD, then refined in SolidWorks to accelerate prototyping and component testing.
The final configuration focused on a minimal number of injection-molded parts to reduce costs, simplify assembly, and improve reliability.
Attention was given to every interaction point—from the intuitive slide control for pump circulation, to the backlit LCD screen that ensures visibility in varied lighting conditions.
We integrated PolyScience’s thermal control expertise into a product that is approachable for both professional and home users, delivering precise results without the steep learning curve typically associated with lab-derived devices.

Universal Mounting Clamp: Attaches easily to any pot or tank—whether round or flat-walled—ensuring flexibility for professional kitchens and home cooks alike.
Compact Footprint: The minimal size not only reduces water displacement, maximizing usable cooking space, but also allows for easy storage and transport.
Consistent Water Circulation: An internal heating coil and adjustable pump work together to circulate water evenly, preventing hot or cold spots. A flow control slider tailors circulation level to the cooking task at hand.
User-Safe, Easy-to-Clean Housing: Protective casing prevents direct contact with internal components while offering tool-free access for inspection and cleaning.
Precision Temperature Control: An intuitive interface and large backlit LCD screen allow for real-time monitoring and precise adjustments—down to 1/10th of a degree, with cooking ranges from 59°F to 212°F (15°C to 100°C).
