This project marked our team’s first major foray into the architectural lighting category. The client approached the team with a challenge: develop a transitional lighting system but we delivered a solution that featured a more modern aesthetic, scalable modularity, and top-tier performance in commercial environments. This was not just a functional lighting fixture; it was an opportunity to create a signature product that could define architectural spaces.


The client needed a design that would feel high-end but accessible, easy to install and configure, and capable of adapting to a wide range of configurations and lighting needs. Importantly, this product would also need to house and protect complex electronics while maintaining a clean visual profile.

 

Design

Our team worked to identify both functional and emotional design criteria:

  • Modularity: The system needed to offer multiple configurations

  • Aesthetic flexibility: It had to work in both dramatic and restrained architectural environments

  • Manufacturability: The design had to allow for precision assembly and cost-effective manufacturing

  • Thermal management: Effective dissipation of heat from high-intensity LEDs without adding bulk

  • Ease of installation: Fixtures should be lightweight, tool-accessible, and intuitive to mount

  • One very important consideration was that our solution needed to facilitate easy “serviceability”

These priorities informed a rigorous development cycle of prototyping, thermal analysis, and installation simulation.

Our design team developed a sleek architectural lighting product with premium material finishes and intelligent construction. The solution emphasized beauty, clarity, minimalism, and performance.

Sternberg Lighting partnered with our design team to develop Lunaria, a sleek family of contemporary outdoor LED luminaires. Crafted from powder-coated, die-cast aluminum, Lunaria fixtures are durable, weather-resistant, and built to last over 100,000 hours. Their distinctive dual-crescent design complements modern architecture while seamlessly integrating into public spaces.

Offered in multiple formats—including pole lights, wall sconces, and bollards—Lunaria delivers energy-efficient performance and modern elegance for a wide range of commercial outdoor lighting applications.

Key Design Features:

  • Slim profile housing: A low visual impact with structural integrity and integrated cable management

  • Modular configurations that allows customers consistent design language across multiple use needs

  • Thermally optimized extrusion: Passively cooled via precision-machined aluminum components

  • End-cap integration: Concealed fasteners and seamless lens-to-housing transitions

  • Custom optics: Designed to offer a variety of beam spreads while maintaining color consistency

Result:

  • Delivered a scalable system now used in commercial, gallery, and educational environments

  • Positioned the client as a leader in adaptable architectural lighting systems

  • Reinforced our team’s ability to translate high-level aesthetic goals into manufacturable realities

This project challenged assumptions and positioned our design team a force in lighting and environmental systems, growing our firm’s versatility beyond traditional product categories.
